Capital Punishment - Stop the Killing :: Argumentative Persuasive Essays
Capital Punishment - Stop the Killing à à à à Looking out for the state of the public's satisfaction in the scheme of capital sentencing does not constitute serving justice.à Today's system of capital punishment is fraught with inequalities and injustices.à The commonly offered arguments for the death penalty are filled with holes.à "It was a deterrent.à It removed killers.à It was the ultimate punishment.à It is biblical. It satisfied the public's need for retribution.à It relieved the anguish of the victim's family."(Grishamà 120)à Realistically, imposing the death penalty is expensive and time consuming.à Retroactively, it has yet to be proven as a deterrent.à Morally, it is a continuation of the cycle of violence and "...degrades all who are involved in its enforcement, as well as its victim."(Stewartà 1)à Capital Punishment has been part of the criminal justice system since the earliest of times. If anything, by forcing families to seek the death penalty, their own consciences will be burdened by
